Lead Service Line Survey

City of Benson Lead Service Line Survey

In December of 2021, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) will go into effect. The LCRR’s main goal is to reduce exposure to lead and copper in drinking water. The EPA has guided the Minnesota Department of Health to establish a current inventory of lead pipes and connections in order to protect communities from the danger of lead.

A service line is the water pipe that connects your home, at the meter, to the public water main. The service line conveys water from the main to the faucets, toilets, and other fixtures within your house and can typically be seen where it enters your home in the basement. The best way to identify the service line is to look for your water meter.

As such, the City of Benson is required to create an inventory of our watermains and water service line materials.
